Wang Liping, female, Manchu ethnicity, born on July 8, 1976, in Fengcheng City, Dandong City, Liaoning Province, China. She is a track and field athlete, graduate student, and holds a Master's degree in Education. She joined the Communist Party of China in July 2001 and started working in August 1994. She is a world champion and Olympic champion, serving in the Chinese women's track and field team.
Currently, she is a coach at the affiliated competitive sports school of Beijing Sport University and holds the title of senior coach.
In April 1997, she was selected for the Chinese national track and field team to participate in the World Cup Race Walking event. In December of the same year, she was once again selected for the national track and field race walking training team to prepare for the Asian Games.
In 1998, at the National Race Walking Championships and the 13th Asian Games selection held in Chongqing, she finished third in the women's 10-kilometer race with a time of 45 minutes and 12 seconds.
In 1999, before the World Cup, there was a domestic pre-selection race. Amidst tough competition including Liu Hongyu and Wang Yan, Wang Liping achieved second place.
In 2000, prior to the Sydney Olympics, Wang Liping secured her qualification for the Olympics based on her three-time championship titles in selection races.
In the 27th Sydney Olympics held in 2000, she won the gold medal in the women's 20-kilometer race walking event with a time of 1 hour, 29 minutes, and 5 seconds.
In 2004, she finished 8th in the women's 20-kilometer race walking event at the Athens Olympics.
In 2005, she won the gold medal at the 4th East Asian Games held in Macau. She announced her retirement in November of the same year.
On April 20, 2010, the World Champion Tree Planting Ceremony was launched to support environmental protection, with Wang Liping and many other world champions participating in tree planting activities as scheduled at the Olympic Village.
On March 30, 2022, World Bipolar Day, the "Anti-Depression Joint Action: 2022 Hundred Cities and Ten Thousand People Mental Health Run" was launched in Beijing. Olympic champion Wang Liping was appointed as the "Mental Health Ambassador."
In November 2022, she was selected as one of the award presenters for the "Heading to Space, Moving Forward with Courage" Aerospace City Half Marathon.
On July 14, 2023, during the torch relay event of the 31st World University Summer Games in Chengdu (Day 3), Wang Liping served as the first torchbearer to pass the torch for the Universiade.
